WORKING CATS is patterned after Marion County's Animal Services: Working Cat Program. This is not Marion County this is a private home where feral cats are taken in and re-homed.
HOW THIS WORKS-
We offer Working Cats: less-social & feral cats for your Farms as well as business & homeowners.
Most of our cats do not like to be handled, but have been around people feeding them on our property. We offer cats to be adopted by individuals for the intent of keeping them at their business, farm, barn, or residence for rodent control.
We will teach an adopter how to acclimate a feral cat to their new home. You will be required to provide food, clean water, & shelter from the elements. The acclimation process takes a few weeks. During that time, the cat will learn the sights, sounds, & overall atmosphere of their new home environment.
Shop owners, as well as barn, factory and agricultural property owners are just a few who may benefit from one of our Working Cats.
Some Benefits of Working Cats:
-Rodent control without poisoning that may kill other animals, no traps, no sticky papers, no need for you to hunt and kill all work done by our cats.
-Saves otherwise unadoptable cats
-May provide companionship to other animals
-May generate positive feedback from customers
These special cats would require an acclimation period in their new environment. Two weeks is the minimum amount of time that they should be in housing (large dog crates, small closed room in their new home, feed room, etc.) During that time they will get used to the sights, sounds, and the person who feeds them and changes their litter pan. Some suggest longer than two weeks, but that can be decided by you and your new cats.
Even though they will be your rodent control, they will still need to be fed cat food and always have access to fresh, clean water. Shelter from the elements will still be necessary. Some people put a cat bed and/or cat tree inside one of their buildings so the cats can come inside for rest and safety from predators and elements- the higher the better. There is only a $25 re-homing fee for a Working Cat as long as you are willing to give them the care that we mentioned above. If they are ever injured or ill, you are required get them veterinary care. All cats have gone through the Marion County Catch & Release Program called SNR and are ear-tipped, vaccinated, and sterilized.
You'll need to plan ahead for their homecoming and it should go well. Preparation is key!
Please call me anytime for more details or any questions I will be happy to answer. We love these feral cats and have taken care of them since they were 6-8 weeks of age and are now 6-8 months old the oldest being 1 year and ready to re-home for work. So our goal is that they go to a good home where they will be cared for and loved. They are NOT lap cats, they rarely tolerate petting only at times while eating they may tolerate a quick touch. Its up to you to work with them to tame them further if you prefer them to be more tame, but their main purpose is to keep your property rid of unwanted rodents. That.. (hunting).. you won’t have to teach them they will do it naturally!
All cats will be delivered to your farm or business or home in Marion County area. Will consider other counties just call and tell us where you're at.
