I HAVE A  CLASSIC MAASAI/ MASAI ELDERS SPEAR  " A BLACK SPEAR " THAT IS DECADES OLD WITH PERIOD TRIBAL MARKINGS AND NICE PATINA OVER-ALL  AND IT IS EXCEPTIONALLY LONG!SPEARS OF THIS TYPE , WITH IT'S LONG BLADE CAME INTO USE APPROX. 100 YRS AGO. IN EARLIER TIMES MOST MAASAI SPEARS WERE...... LEAF SHAPED..... WITH LONG WOODEN HANDLES.EACH WARRIOR OVER A PERIOD OF HIS LIFE WOULD RECEIVE A STOCK/BASIC SPEAR AND WOULD SHAPE AND FILE CHEVRONS OR V LIKE INCISIONS JUST ABOVE THE SOCKET AND WOULD INSCRIBE INCISIONS BELOW THE LOWER SOCKET. THE LOBES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE BLADE CAN VARY FROM ROUNDED LOBES TO POINTED TIPS..... DEPENDING ON IT'S CLAN ORIGINS. THE LOWER SHAFT AND THE UPPER BLADE WHERE MADE FROM HIGH CARBON STEEL FOUND IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF RAILROADS & VEHICLE LEAF SPRINGS IN THE EARY 1900'S.  LATELY,  RE-BAR,  MADE FROM SCRAP METAL & USED IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION,  IS COMMONLY USED ! HIGH CARBON STEEL IS ESSENTIAL IN THE BLADE'S ABILITY TO HOLD A SHARP EDGE !DIMENSIONS:   LENGTH -----> 73 1/2 IN.                           UPPER BLADE -----> 30 1/8 IN.                           LOWER SHAFT ----> 25 3/8 IN                           WOOD HANDLE ---->  17 3/4 IN                           WEIGHT ----> 5 LBS.
