Antique Chinese Black Lacquer & Mother-of-Pearl Marble Top Tiered Table - Late 19th Century | Qing Dynasty Influence.
A striking and highly decorative late 19th-century Chinese export three-tier occasional table, masterfully crafted in richly toned hardwood with extensive black lacquer and shimmering mother-of-pearl inlay throughout. The rectangular top features a dramatic dark gray and white marble inset center framed by an intricate floral and vine mother-of-pearl border beneath a protective glass top.
The table is further enhanced with deeply carved beaded and gadrooned edges, openwork floral aprons, and elaborately carved legs adorned with flowering vine motifs and iridescent mother-of-pearl accents. The sculptural skirt and corner carvings terminate in stylized carved paw feet, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship and strong visual presence.
The middle shelf retains beautifully pierced carved brackets with additional inlay decoration, while the lower shelf offers practical display or storage space. The extensive hand carving and intact mother-of-pearl detailing are especially desirable, as loss to inlay is common in pieces of this age.
This table displays strong influences of Chinese Qing Dynasty export furniture made for Western markets during the late Victorian period and would work beautifully as a side table, lamp table, entry piece, or decorative accent in both traditional and eclectic interiors.
Condition: Lower shelf has a slight crack in the wood and demonstrates a small area of blistering. Overall it is clean, stable, and structurally in sound condition. Mother-of-pearl inlay appears intact throughout. Marble inset presents attractively with natural veining and age-appropriate surface wear. Minor finish wear, light scuffs, and expected age-related patina consistent with antique use.
